Red Shoes
In honor of Natalie Portman's Oscar for "Black Swan," I thought I'd share a few photos from pointe class this weekend at the Studio.
I took my camera to class mainly because I was obsessed with these red pointe shoes that one of the ladies wore. But I was also thrilled to have an excuse to duck out of 36 of about ten million echappes.
The ladies were such good sports about my photographing mid-class.
And two were even lovely enough to let me snap a few posed shots.
How gorgeous are they! Not bad for a bunch of no-longer-14-year-olds, right?

Not sure if you've mentioned this before, but have you always danced or did you get back into it as an adult? I danced growing up and through high school but haven't done any in at least five years.. I'm always interested in others' dance stories : )
@ Kira: I danced up through middle school but didn't get back to it until after college. I did quite a bit of dancing during grad school, stopped during law school when I got too busy, but took it back up again two years ago. When I was small, I saw dance as a total chore. But coming back to it as an adult has been such a pleasure -- all fun, no competition, body image anxiety, etc. Do you think you'll dance again?
How beautiful!
Confession: Growing up I always wanted to be a ballet dancer. I guess The Bar Method will have to do (even though it's totally not the same).
